Christmas mug craft

A hand-painted mug makes a personal, low-cost gift — and it's a craft simple enough for kids to do most of themselves.

You'll need

• Plain ceramic mugs
• Porcelain/ceramic paint pens
• Painter's tape (for clean lines, optional)

How to make it

1. Wipe the mug with rubbing alcohol to remove any residue before painting.
2. Draw or write your design with the paint pens; let dry fully per the pen's instructions.
3. Bake in a cold oven set to 350°F for 30 minutes to cure the paint, then let cool in the oven.
4. Hand wash to preserve the design.
